Born and raised near Philadelphia, Hansen came to Texas as soon as he could to become one of the best breaststrokers in American history. He is a six-time Olympic medalist (three gold, one silver, two bronze) and a former world record-holder in both the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke. He won a total of 25 medals in major international competition (18 gold, four silver, three bronze) spanning the Olympics, the World Championships, and the Pan Pacific Championships. Swimming for Eddie Reese’s University of Texas teams from 2001 to 2005, he never lost a breaststroke event. He was a 16-time all-American and won 14 NCAA national championships. He continues to give back to the sport and is currently general manager of Austin Aquatics and Sports Academy. Brendan and wife Martha have two children.
