Bill Walker
A pioneer of South Texas Swimming and a founding member of the Texas Swimming Association, Walker began his Texas coaching career in Harlingen in 1967-1970. He served as aquatics coordinator and head high school coach of North East ISD and the San Antonio Aquatic Club (1970-1976 and 1982-2001) and was head coach of McAllen High School and Aquatic Club (1976-82). He was TISCA president in 1974 and 1975. Walker was chairman of South Texas Swimming (1976-1978) and the USA Swimming National Time Standards Committee (1974-1984). He taught or Supervised 74,000 children in learn-to-swim programs. Walker coached 55 high school all-Americans and won three TAGS titles. He was voted TISCA Girls Coach of the Year in 1974 and 1975 and as aquatics coordinator, his teams won nine UIL state titles. The North East Aquatic Center long course pool in San Antonio was named in his honor in 2005 for his more than 40 years of contributions.
